Epic is looking for an experienced Environment Art Lead to work on projects under the Fortnite IP. The Environment Art Lead will lead and collaborate cross-discipline to help create, evolve and maintain the environment art direction. This person will have a balance of technical capability, creative thinking, and a strong ability to lead a team in developing content for our various biomes, POIs, and thematic prop sets. Working closely with the Environment Art Director, you will help drive the seasonal art direction by reviewing the team’s work and providing clear and actionable feedback. By interfacing with other art leads, design leads, and producers, you’ll ensure delivery of an immersive player experience.
- Be highly creative – imagine and help drive the environment art direction forward
- Work with Discipline Leads and Outsource partners to facilitate engaging player experiences
- Understand the latest toolsets to create performant assets at the highest of quality
- Work closely with Principal and Senior Artists to maintain and evolve our pipeline
- Maintain a healthy team by identifying team needs and addressing them by working with other team Leads, Production, HR, IT, and facilitating team growth by working closely with Recruiting
- Understand the high-level goals of the Environment Art Direction; and represent art direction when necessary in meetings and discussions
- Assist the Art Director with rounds of feedback in both 2D and 3D assets to streamline the work process across all disciplines
- Strong understanding of Environment Art best practices for game development, including modular architecture and prop creation, developing immersive biomes, to create environments that feel fresh and have mass appeal
- Creative brainstorming to ideate and further drive seasonal direction through pre-production
- Experience working with Designers around core game loops
- Desire to grow your leadership skills
- Experience shipping games on multiple platforms, including mobile. Strong understanding of performance and optimization trade-offs to achieve the best quality, for all our players
- Deep knowledge of latest toolsets, including but not limited to various 3D modeling packages, Substance Painter and Designer, Unreal Engine, and Marmoset Toolbag
- Strong understanding of art fundamentals, including lighting, color theory, and composition, to deliver clear and readable spaces to our player base
- Experience as a Lead overseeing an entire development team, including providing effective and actionable feedback for our internal artists, level designers, and outsourcing contractors, in both 2D and 3D
- Strong collaborative nature to partner with Art Directors and other Discipline leads
- A low ego, inclusive, and collaborative mindset who can rally a team around a set goal
- Core understanding of what makes for an engaging player experience
